Mare ปีศาจฝันของชาวไวกิ้ง

Morana or Morena is a Slavic goddess associated with death, winter and nightmares. The tradition of burning or drowning an dummy of Morana to celebrate the end of winter is a folk custom that survives in Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. This ritual represents the end of the dark days of winter, the victory over death, and the welcoming of the spring rebirth.
  
     ม้อรา เป็นคำที่ชาวสแกนดิเนเวียนใช้เรียกคำว่า ฝันร้าย ตามตำนานความเชื่อของชาวยุโรปเหนือนางคือปีศาจเพศหญิงที่ทำให้ผู้คนฝันร้ายตอนกลางคืนโดยนั่งทับบนร่างของเหยื่อ ปรากฎตัวในรูปร่างที่หลากหลาย

Mareridtet er kendt som motiv i kunsthistorien - her malet af Ditlev Blunck i 1848. Bluncks version kan nu ses af offentligheden, fordi Nivaagaards Malerisamling har fået det foræret af en privat samler. »Jeg forestiller mig en tidlig Sommermorgen«, skrev Ditlev Blunck om maleriet i 1847 i et brev til professor Lund i København.
